“I'd never heard of Tando Allahyar”, Hassan's first taste of Sindhi mango in Leicester

Hassan grew up in Leicester in a Punjabi household where the word "mango" basically meant Chaunsa. His family imported boxes through a cousin's cash-and-carry every July for as long as he can remember. He'd never knowingly eaten a Sindhi mango.

In June 2026 he was scrolling our shop on a Sunday evening and saw a carton labelled "Tando Allahyar, Sindhi early-season Sindhri". He'd never heard of Tando Allahyar. He read the orchard profile, watched the embedded harvest journey video, and reserved a single carton on impulse while it was still open.

The carton arrived the following Thursday. He opened it that evening, cut one mango at room temperature, and called his mother.

"It was the wrong smell. The wrong colour inside. The wrong texture. And it was, I don't know how to explain this politely, it was better. Lighter, less sticky, more lemony. My mum was furious. She thought I was joking. She came over the next morning and ate one in my kitchen and went very quiet."

What he wants other Punjabi-household customers to know: "There is a whole second Pakistani mango tradition you have not tried. Order one Sindhi carton. Pay the carriage. Don't tell your mother in advance. It is worth the family argument."
