“My first carton of Chaunsa in twenty years”, Zainab's first PakMango.Com order

Zainab grew up between Bradford and Lahore. Every July her mother would book flights so the family could land in time for what they simply called "the mango month". After her grandmother passed away in 2004, the trips stopped, and so did the mangoes. The Pakistani fruit she found in UK shops was always either green-shouldered and starchy or, occasionally, a soft Sindhri that bruised by the time she got it home.

Earlier this year a friend forwarded her our fresh-arrival email. She read the Khanewal grove page twice, looked up the season calendar, and reserved a single 3 kg carton of Honey Chaunsa for July. "I wasn't expecting much," she told us. "I'd been burned too many times by 'Pakistani mangoes' that arrived as fruit salad."

The carton landed on a Friday afternoon. Zainab opened it on her kitchen counter, slid one mango out of the straw, and pressed her thumb to the shoulder. It gave with the soft, springy resistance she remembered. The smell hit her before she'd even cut the fruit, that unmistakable resin-and-honey perfume that no Indian or Latin American mango produces. She called her mother in Lahore on FaceTime and held the carton up to the camera.

"My mother cried. I cried. We argued for ten minutes about whether to eat them straight from the fridge or let them come up to room temperature. We were nine and forty-one again at the same time."

Zainab has since reserved cartons throughout the 2026 season and has converted both of her sisters in Leeds and Manchester. She reminds the family WhatsApp group to check the expected delivery before their favourite variety sells out.

Her advice to first-time buyers: "Reserve, don't think about it. You're paying for fruit picked for flavour, imported fresh and delivered with care."
