Mango during pregnancy, what's safe and what to watch
Mango is pregnancy-safe and rich in folate. The catch is how the fruit is ripened, not the fruit itself.

Why mango is good in pregnancy
A 200g serving of ripe Chaunsa provides 48 micrograms of folate, roughly 12% of the increased pregnancy RDI. It also provides vitamin C (which improves iron absorption), vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene (safer for pregnancy than retinol forms), and potassium.
Mango is naturally low in mercury, free of caffeine and is not among the foods commonly listed as ones to avoid during pregnancy.
Avoid calcium carbide-ripened fruit
Some Pakistani and Indian wholesalers use calcium carbide to artificially ripen mangoes in the import warehouse, this leaves trace arsenic and phosphorus residues that are unsafe during pregnancy.
Buy from importers who confirm natural ripening (ethylene-only, or no gassing at all). PakMango.Com ships mangoes that ripen naturally on your counter, never gassed.
First trimester
The vitamin B6 in mango (0.12mg per 100g) has been shown in small studies to ease morning sickness. The cold, sweet flesh also tends to be tolerated when other foods aren't.
Avoid unripe mango chutneys in the first trimester, the high citrus content can aggravate acid reflux.
Second and third trimester
The folate, fibre and potassium support placental development and help manage pregnancy constipation and leg cramps.
Watch portion size in the third trimester if you've developed gestational diabetes, the same diabetic guidance applies: 80g per serving with protein.
Final hygiene notes
Wash the mango skin under running water before peeling. Listeria has been detected on the skin of imported tropical fruit; the rinse-and-peel routine removes the risk.
Do not eat mango that has been pre-cut and left at room temperature for more than two hours. Cut fruit kept refrigerated should be eaten within 24 hours.
